Enrollment Update
Re-enrollment is now over and Open Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is underway!
Please watch our enrollment tracker board near the front office to view our progress.
Some grade levels are nearing capacity and a waiting list will be started. Please tell anyone you know who may be interested in enrolling for next year to do so soon to ensure a spot is held for their child or children.
Preschool has started a waiting list already!
Attendance is Important
While we certainly do not want you to send your sick child to school, it is very important that your child is here regularly and on-time so that they do not miss important learning opportunities in their classroom.
Friday Jean Days
Because everyone worked so hard to return re-enrollment forms, students will have non-uniform days on Friday February 12th and 26th.
School Board Meetings
The Bay County PSA School Board meets the second Wednesday of each month beginning at 5:30 pm.
The public is welcome to attend these meetings and reminders of Board Meetings are posted on the parking lot doors 7 days in advance of the meeting.
Members of the public can sign up to speak to the Board before the meeting starts or you can just observe.
Call For PTO Help
We are always looking for people to volunteer their time and talents for special projects coordinated by our PTO. You do not need to make a year long commitment, but maybe you can help for one project or event.
Our next PTO meeting is Monday, February 22, at 6:00 pm. Dinner will be served starting at 5:30pm.
Our PTO needs your help with the following events:

Depression in Children
The signs of depression in children are different than in adults, so it may be overlooked.
Depressed children may have these characteristics:
- Report stomach aches, headaches, and other aches and pains
- Say they feel “empty”
- Think no one likes them and that they have no friends
- Avoid school and other social events
- Have outbursts of anger, shouting, irritability, crying
- Act aggressive and violent toward themselves or animals
- Have problems with sleeping, eating, bedwetting, and toileting
- Experience a drop in grades or school performance
- Cling to parent or worry their parent might die
Why is it so important to know about depression?
Depression is the number one cause of suicide. In fact, over half of all kids who suffer with depression will attempt suicide at least once; more than seven percent will die as a result. The good news is that depression is treatable, and suicide is preventable.
Your health care provider can tell you if this a normal “phase” or a sign that your child needs help. If you or your child’s teacher notices a change in your child, take him or her to a pediatrician for a checkup. Your health care provider can tell you if there is a physical problem or if your child might need to be checked for another type of problem, such as depression.♥
Let's Stay Healthy!
A child should not come to school if:
- He or she has had a temperature over 99 degrees within the past 24 hours.
- He/she has vomited in the past 24 hours.
With cold and flu season right around the corner, please help us keep everyone healthy by keeping sick children home until they feel better.
The Michigan Model has a new Family Resource Sheet on Flu and H1N1. You can download this information here.
