Admission Policies
Bay County Public School Academy is a public charter school. All charter schools shall comply fully with the state Charter School Law regarding admission policies and procedures, as well as all other applicable state and federal provisions. The charter school will be nonsectarian in all respects. The school shall not discriminate against any student, employee, or other person on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability. Admission criteria will not consider intellectual or athletic ability, aptitude, disability, race, creed, national origin, religion or ancestry. Open enrollment for the Academy will take place in the month of February.
LotterY
If the number of applications exceeds the number of seats available in a grade, the school will accept students by a random selection process. The school will grant enrollment preference to returning students, to siblings of students already enrolled in the school, and to students residing in the district. The school will maintain a waiting list of the remaining applicants. The school will notify applicant families by the end of April whether their children have been accepted. A neutral party will conduct the lottery on behalf of the school.
Waiting Lists
After available spaces are filled, waiting lists
will be maintained for each grade. When a space
becomes available in a grade, the
parent of the first
student on the waiting list will be contacted
and given one week in which they can accept
the position. If the space
is declined,
the next person on
the list will be contacted.
Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is so important to the success of Bay County
Public School Academy. Parents are asked to donate two hours
per month volunteer time.
Bay County Academy has a very active parent teacher organization (PTO).
Please call the school office if you would like to participate in the PTO.
Parents will also be asked to complete Satisfaction Surveys in the spring
each year. The surveys are used to evaluate and improve our total school
community. We also hold regular Parent Night’s where information topics are presented or speakers are invited in to talk about subjects of interest to parents. Child care is provided during these sessions and dinner is provided before the evening activities begin.
